Inaugural Northern NSW Youth Girls Rugby Competition

With the Support of The Rugby Club Foundation the inaugural Northern NSW Youth Girls Rugby competition took place in 2024. This project was groundbreaking in both its collaboration and co-operation between neighbouring zones and its ability to address inclusiveness across remote and regional areas to provide meaningful playing outcomes.

NSW Rugby worked directly with Junior rugby directors from the Mid North Coast, Far North Coast, and New England Zones to ensure a seamless and well-organised competition that maximized the developmental opportunities for the participating young athletes. Unlike traditional setups, the competition was regionally based, aiming to provide girls with exposure to the intricacies of the 15-a-side format.

The competition did not replace inter-zone competitions that are run by the zones, rather worked alongside these competitions to enhance the experience of participants. In its inaugural year, games were be played over three gala-style weekends for over 100 U14s and U16s girls that included players from across the zones. The condensed competition structure was designed to maximise participation and create an exciting atmosphere for everyone involved.

In its pursuit of its primary objective “supporting grassroots Rugby” the Foundation was proud to support this innovative pilot program that offered a unique opportunity for coaches, volunteers, and match officials to enhance their skills and contribute to the growth of Rugby.
