Wheelchair Rugby Come 'n' Try Program
With the assistance of a financial grant from The Rugby Club Foundation, Wheelchair Rugby Australia and Wheelchair Sports NSW ran a hugely successful Wheelchair Rugby Come 'n' Try Program from 11 - 13 October 2019 at the Northern Beaches PCYC.
Chris Nay CEO of Wheelchair Rugby Australia said ”Introductory programs such as the Come ‘n’ Try days are the first step in the documented Wheelchair Rugby player development pathway and provides the springboard to further Wheelchair Rugby development programs or local and social competition. We are grateful to The Rugby Club Foundation for their support and look forward to continuing to share the spirit of the game with them.”
The main objectives of the Come ‘n’ Try program are to:
- Increase participation in Wheelchair Rugby in NSW and across Australia
- Support grassroots development of Wheelchair Rugby in NSW
- Increase the profile of Wheelchair Rugby in NSW and across Australia
- Align grassroots development nationally.
Participants in the Come ‘n’ Try program gain:
- An introduction to the chairs and to the rules of the sport
- Skills and drills training
- Opportunity to compete in a friendly scrimmage
- Information on how to continue to be involved with Wheelchair Rugby.
